I designed and built an AI-native consumer product that turns ingredients and preferences into cocktail and mocktail recipes—from the first request to a personal recipe library.
Overview
A real product. From intent to something useful.
Mixology AI starts with what someone has on hand and what they feel like making. My work connects AI interaction design, mobile UX, hands-on development, and a coherent product and brand experience—not just a generated recipe.

From one form to three ways in.
The original version in 2023 used form-based input. People told me that entering the information felt like too much effort. I redesigned the entry experience so they could choose how to provide ingredients and preferences, rather than having to complete the same form.
The goal was to reduce the effort of getting started while keeping the path to a recipe clear.
- Type it. Use guided, AI-assisted input to enter ingredients and preferences manually.
- Show it. Take a photo of the ingredients and use them as the starting point for a recipe.
- Say it. Speak a request instead of typing the information into a form.
Product screens

Selected app screens show the interaction states: composing a request, speaking it, and exploring a recipe. Open any screen to inspect it at full size.
A request with structure.
Drink type, ingredients, and vibe appear as editable parts of a sentence. This keeps a guided option for people who prefer to enter their request manually.
A clear listening state.
Voice input offers another way to start, with a distinct listening surface, a short prompt, and visible Cancel and Done controls. It is an alternative to typed entry, not an additional required step.
A recipe, not a chat reply.
The result has its own hierarchy: drink image and name, description, glassware, garnish, and ingredients, with actions to save it or craft another drink.

Beyond the first result
Make a good discovery easy to return to.
Craft, History, and Saved give the product a structure beyond a single generation. A recent recipe and a deliberately saved favorite have different places in the experience.
History preserves context.
Recent and revisited recipes appear together, with the same persistent navigation used across the app.
Saved gives favorites a home.
A featured signature drink and a personal shelf distinguish intentional favorites from the history of previous requests.
Design focus
AI interaction design, carried through to the product.
- Respond to input friction with choice. Feedback on V1’s form-based entry informed three input options: guided typing, an ingredient photo, or a spoken request.
- Make state visible. Composing, listening, viewing a recipe, and returning to a favorite are distinct parts of the interface.
- Connect generation with repeat use. Recipe details, History, and Saved make the generated result part of an ongoing product experience.
- Carry the design into implementation. My contribution spans the interaction model, mobile interface, hands-on development, and the product’s public presence.
Shipped work
Released in 2023. Continued beyond the first version.
Mixology AI has been publicly available since 2023. Its App Store listing identifies me as the developer and documents ongoing interface, recipe, and voice-input updates.
The work connects the full path from user input to recipe output, with a library to revisit. It demonstrates hands-on product design and development alongside my healthcare and enterprise work.
